Q:Well there's that one video on YouTube where Bruce Lee talks about how in fighting you should adapt like water. If you put water into a cup it becomes the cup and what not. But I thought about my question again and I don't think it makes sense anymore. I don't think the logic that he was using about fighting applies to dancing. The question was basically like, is there any style of dance that mixes togeher other styles smoothly. And then there was this other question about STyle, but once again.
(Continued) I don’t think that Bruce Lee’s philosophy applies to dance. He said that to actually express yourself was very hard to do. So what is Style in bboying?
I think as far as mixing in other styles smoothly, that’s always an evolutionary point of most underground dancing. Like, with breaking, you can get away with anything and a lot of dances can be integrated into breaking. I’ve seen people bust out moves from salsas to popping to the dougie, breaking is flexible in that matter. I think it is the most flexible dance form. I have yet to see a dance form that could not be partially borrowed and implemented into breaking.
Style is how you as an individual choose to move. The attitude you have, the moves you throw out, the steps you take, you little techs you throw out, how you choose to play with the beat, what instruments you want to emphasize with your dancing, the message you want to convey, all of that comes together to form your style.
Style is one of those really hard to truly explain things, because everyone has their own. It’s the combination of the internal and external. Your views, your beliefs, your strengths, your weaknesses, your skill, your physical stats, your mental perceptions, it all comes together to form what is “your style.” It’s one of those things that you figure out the more in depth definitions of as you go. Because, you’re the only one who can rally figure out what you define style as; as according to yourself. But, the rest of this, that’s how I view what style is on a broad perspective.
*I hope you don’t mind me publishing your questions so much, people ask the same ones, but you word it the best, so it’s easier to answer to theirs and yours.
